Forward Ben Kindel returned to the ice on Tuesday, one week after losing consciousness on the Pittsburgh Penguins' team flight back from Salt Lake City.
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ben Kindel returned to practice on Tuesday at Cranberry Township, marking his first session since fainting on the team's flight from Salt Lake City on Oct. 20. The 19-year-old, who has recorded two goals and two assists through four games this season, participated in drills on the second line alongside Evgeni Malkin and Egor Chinakhov. General manager Kyle Dubas characterized the medical emergency as a vasovagal episode.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff, leading to Kindel being treated by club medical personnel before spending a night in a Salt Lake City hospital for observation. Although the Penguins placed Kindel on injured reserve, he was cleared for conditioning over the weekend following additional testing in Pittsburgh. Coach Dan Muse indicated the team will evaluate the forward's status daily, though Kindel expressed optimism about a quick return to the lineup.
Pittsburgh is currently on a two-game winning streak following an 0-4 road trip. The team remains off until Thursday, when they are scheduled to host Utah. Captain Sidney Crosby noted that Kindel’s presence at the Tuesday practice was a positive sign for the club's roster progression.
