Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand made his season debut Sunday night against the Anaheim Ducks after being sidelined since March 6.
Florida Panthers left wing Brad Marchand returned to the lineup Sunday night against the Anaheim Ducks, marking his first appearance since March 6. The 38-year-old veteran slotted onto the third line alongside teammates Brady Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart. Marchand, who recorded 27 goals and 54 points last season, underwent an undisclosed surgical procedure during the offseason to address a lower-body issue that caused him to miss a career-high 30 games.
Coach Paul Maurice confirmed the return prior to puck drop in Anaheim, despite initial projections that Marchand would miss the entire month of October for rehabilitation. While the forward participated in training camp last month in Fort Lauderdale, he had been restricted from active team drills until this debut. The return follows a 2023-24 campaign where Florida failed to qualify for the postseason.
In a corresponding roster shift, the Panthers placed center Aleksander Barkov on long-term injured reserve on Saturday. Barkov suffered a left leg injury and is expected to miss at least the next 10 games. Although he underwent an MRI this past weekend, sources told ESPN that the team is optimistic the injury is not season-ending.
