Capitals Sign Justin Sourdif to Eight-Year Contract Extension

Forward Justin Sourdif signed an eight-year deal worth $6.35 million annually after recording 35 points in 78 games for Washington last season.

The Washington Capitals signed forward Justin Sourdif to an eight-year contract extension worth $6.35 million annually on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Richmond, British Columbia native was previously entering the final season of a two-year deal valued at $825,000 per year. This new agreement is scheduled to take effect at the start of the 2026-27 season.

Sourdif recorded 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points across 78 games during the 2025-26 campaign. This performance marked a significant jump in production from his previous professional total of one point in four NHL appearances. He was one of 11 Washington players to reach double-digit goal totals last year, a season in which the club finished four points shy of the final Eastern Conference wild-card berth.

According to ESPN, Sourdif is the second Capitals player to commit to a long-term extension on Tuesday, joining forward Ryan Leonard. Leonard also secured an eight-year deal, worth $10.5 million annually, beginning in 2026-27. With these signings, Sourdif becomes part of a core group of 12 Washington players currently under contract for at least three additional seasons.
