Como moved into fourth place in the Champions League table after a 9-1 victory over Lens, setting a new competition record for goals scored on the road.
Como defeated Lens 9-1 on Wednesday to set a Champions League record for the most goals scored away from home by any team in the competition's history. Tasos Douvikas recorded the first hat trick by a Como player in European competition, while Nico Paz provided two assists and a 40th-minute goal to put the Italian side up 3-0. Additional scoring contributions came from Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina, and Matteo Papaccioli.
The nine-goal performance tied Bayern Munich's record for the most goals scored by a single team in a game and established a new eight-goal margin of victory record, equaling marks previously set by Liverpool in 2007 and Real Madrid in 2015. Through four Champions League matches, Cesc Fabregas' squad has scored 19 goals, placing them one behind Paris Saint-Germain's total. The result moved the Serie A side into fourth place in the league phase table.
Following the match, Fabregas urged his players to remain humble and avoid buying into the "hype" of the record-setting performance. The victory comes during Como's debut season in major European competition. Domestically, the club currently sits fourth in Serie A with 23 points from 10 games, trailing leaders Lazio by five points. Como is scheduled to face second-place Inter on Sunday.
