Conor McGregor is targeting a return to the octagon by summer 2025, specifically requesting a rematch with Max Holloway after their July bout ended in 69 seconds.
Conor McGregor (22-7) has publicly demanded a rematch against Max Holloway (28-9) for his final appearance in the UFC. Their previous welterweight encounter in Las Vegas ended in a TKO victory for Holloway in just 69 seconds after McGregor suffered a right knee injury in the opening moments of the contest. Speaking on Saturday at the BKFC Glasgow post-fight news conference, the 38-year-old Irishman claimed that Holloway called for the referee to stop the fight rather than engaging while McGregor was compromised on one leg.
McGregor is currently three months removed from surgery and estimates a return to competition within nine months, placing his potential comeback before the summer of 2025. The July loss at UFC 329 marked his first fight since 2021, a period during which he has sustained two consecutive major lower-body injuries. His previous appearance resulted in a fractured leg during a bout against Dustin Poirier.
While the former champion insists on facing Holloway, he indicated a willingness to consider other opponents if the rematch cannot be finalized. However, McGregor specified he will only entertain offers to fight world champions or athletes with significant global accolades. He previously returned from the same type of injury within a nine-month timeframe and expressed a desire to compete frequently once his rehabilitation is complete.
