Manchester City forward Erling Haaland saw his Instagram following grow by 32.1 million during a summer where the Premier League spent £3.46 billion on transfers.

Erling Haaland remains the Premier League’s preeminent global star following the departures of Mohamed Salah to Trabzonspor and Son Heung-Min to Major League Soccer. While the league’s collective revenue reached €8.098 billion for the 2024-25 season—surpassing the Bundesliga’s €4.3 billion and LaLiga’s €4.1 billion—clubs have shifted toward a data-driven model focusing on squad depth over individual "Galacticos." During the most recent transfer window, English top-flight clubs spent a total of £3.46 billion, with 11 of the top 15 most valuable deals occurring between Premier League teams, such as Bradley Barcola’s £120 million move to Liverpool.

Haaland’s individual profile grew significantly over the summer as his Instagram following rose from 40.6 million to 72.7 million. He was the only Premier League representative among the top 10 players to see the largest social media increases during the World Cup period. Despite this individual growth, the league currently lacks superstar managers for the first time since 1992, as Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, and Jurgen Klopp are no longer coaching in the division.

Financial regulations, specifically the Squad Cost Ratio (SCR), now restrict on-pitch spending to 85% of football-related revenue and net profit from player sales. This has led to a focus on "Premier League-proven" players or young prospects. Recent overseas arrivals valued over €35 million include winger Christos Tzolis, defender Piero Hincapié, and midfielder Mamadou Sangare. According to Deloitte and Brand Finance, the Premier League maintains five teams in the global top 10 for brand value, with Arsenal ranking third behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
