Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring for an exhibition against Matty Floyd in Bangkok on December 19.
Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) announced on social media that he will return to the ring for an exhibition fight against Australian Matty Floyd on Dec. 19. The 49-year-old former five-division champion is scheduled to compete in Bangkok, Thailand, though no broadcaster has been confirmed for the event.
Mayweather described the matchup as a "tune up" ahead of a teased full return to professional boxing against WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia in 2027. Garcia, 28, won the 147-pound title by defeating Mario Barrios in February and recently recorded a second-round stoppage of Conor Benn in September. While Garcia confirmed he is in talks with Mayweather, he stated he intends to fight in February regardless of whether the bout with the retired veteran is finalized.
Since retiring in 2017 following a knockout victory over Conor McGregor, Mayweather has not participated in a non-exhibition contest. Previous plans for a Sept. 19 rematch against Manny Pacquiao on Netflix and a separate exhibition against Mike Tyson both failed to materialize. Mayweather previously defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision in their 2015 meeting.
