Hurricanes Captain Jordan Staal Signs One-Year Contract Extension

Postseason MVP Jordan Staal signed a one-year extension with the Carolina Hurricanes that includes a $4 million signing bonus.

Jordan Staal signed a one-year contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, a deal that runs through the 2027-28 season. The 38-year-old forward will receive a $900,000 base salary, a $4 million signing bonus, and up to $5.1 million in performance-based incentives. The agreement follows a season where Staal captained the franchise to a Stanley Cup championship and earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.

During the Hurricanes' championship run, Staal recorded eight goals and 12 points across 19 postseason appearances. In the preceding regular season, he tallied 20 goals and 36 points in 75 games, helping Carolina secure the Metropolitan Division title. General manager Eric Tulsky described the veteran as the bedrock of the organization's culture in an official statement released by the team.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native enters the upcoming season with 499 career points, leaving him one shy of the 500-point milestone. Originally selected No. 2 overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2006 NHL Draft, Staal has now solidified his tenure in Raleigh for an additional year following his June title win.
