Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced on Monday that starters Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace will undergo surgery for injuries sustained during Sunday's win over the LA Clippers. Williams, 25, suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle with 1:14 remaining in the game after landing awkwardly on a drive. Wallace, 22, sustained a torn labrum in his left shoulder during the first quarter after colliding with a moving screen set by Isaiah Jackson.
Both players are sidelined indefinitely, with return timelines expected to be established following their respective operations. The injuries typically involve multi-month rehabilitation periods, potentially impacting their availability for the remainder of the season. Williams is currently in the first year of a five-year, $239 million maximum contract, while Wallace signed a five-year, $139 million extension last week.
Williams previously missed the first 19 games of last season recovering from wrist surgery and was limited to 33 regular-season appearances due to hamstring strains. Wallace, an All-Defensive selection last year, recently moved into the starting lineup following the team's trade of Luguentz Dort to Atlanta. The Thunder medical staff utilized a stretcher to remove Williams from the court on Sunday after his left leg collapsed during the final minutes of play.
