New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday on his left knee to repair tears to his MCL and meniscus. According to ESPN, the 23-year-old also suffered PCL damage, though his ACL remained intact. The injury occurred on the seventh snap of Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams when Dart was hit on his right side by linebacker Byron Young and forced into linebacker Josaiah Stewart, who struck the quarterback's knee.

Coach John Harbaugh announced that Dart will be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, though he left open the possibility of a postseason return. The Giants officially placed Dart on injured reserve Thursday. In his absence, Jameis Winston will start Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Winston previously completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and one interception after replacing Dart in the three-plus quarters remaining against Los Angeles.

Dart began his second NFL season by completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over the Dallas Cowboys, adding 54 rushing yards in that contest. Despite the severity of the knee damage, which imaging revealed to be more significant than the initial sprain diagnosis, the quarterback is expected to make a full recovery. Dart opted for immediate surgery to begin a rehabilitation process that could last through the Super Bowl in four-plus months.
