Baltimore Ravens coach Jesse Minter confirmed quarterback Lamar Jackson requires surgery on his right thumb and will be placed on injured reserve.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will undergo surgery on his right thumb and be placed on injured reserve, according to coach Jesse Minter. The announcement followed Baltimore's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Jackson sustained the injury on his first play of the game when his throwing hand struck the hand of Bills outside linebacker Greg Rousseau during a pass attempt. The two-time MVP, who was returning from a three-game absence due to a high ankle sprain, left the field immediately with a trainer.
The Ravens' quarterback depth was further depleted in the second quarter when backup Tyler "Snoop" Huntley exited with a right toe injury. Huntley completed 2 of 4 passes for zero yards before being ruled out in the third quarter. Consequently, Baltimore turned to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. Making his regular-season debut, the Connecticut product finished 10-of-21 passing for 91 yards and one interception.
This game marked the first time since the 2017 Dallas Cowboys that an NFL team had three different quarterbacks throw a pass in the first half of a game. The Ravens (4-3) entered the contest having scored only five touchdowns in their previous 14 quarters without Jackson. With this defeat, Baltimore is now attempting to avoid a three-game losing streak.
