Joan Laporta Proposes Spotify Camp Nou as 2030 World Cup Final Venue

Barcelona president Joan Laporta told Spanish radio network Cadena SER on Wednesday that the Spotify Camp Nou should host the 2030 World Cup final. Laporta cited the stadium's planned 105,000-fan capacity following its renovation as a primary reason for FIFA to select the venue. The proposal comes as Spain and Morocco continue a disagreement over which nation will host the tournament's concluding match.

Spain and Morocco have both previously claimed they would host the showpiece game, with Spain making the assertion in January and Morocco following suit earlier this month. Laporta argued against holding the final in Casablanca or Madrid, noting that the Santiago Bernabeu already hosted the World Cup final in 1982. The president stated he intends to formally propose the Barcelona venue to FIFA to gain international recognition for the club.

The 2030 tournament is set to be primarily split between Spain, Morocco, and Portugal. To mark the centenary of the 1930 World Cup, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will each host one match. While Laporta emphasized that the final should be played in the "Spanish state" because Spain are the reigning world champions, FIFA told Efe news agency last week that a final decision on the venue will be made in due course.
