Yaxel Lendeborg recorded 37 points on Sunday night to lead the Golden State Warriors to a victory over the LA Clippers. The 24-year-old wing, selected 11th overall in the recent draft, helped secure the win while Steph Curry was sidelined for rest. Through his first eight NBA games, Lendeborg is averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest. The Warriors have now won five consecutive games following a winless 0-3 start to the season.
Owner Joe Lacob told 95.7 The Game on Monday that the organization "got this one right" regarding the rookie's selection. Lacob noted that Lendeborg has exceeded internal expectations and surprised head coach Steve Kerr with a lack of visible weaknesses. The owner contrasted this success with previous lottery picks James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga, who are no longer on the Golden State roster.
Lacob emphasized that while NBA general managers often prioritize 18- and 19-year-old prospects for their upside, he was fully committed to Lendeborg as a player ready for immediate contribution. The rookie currently provides the team with high-level production on a cheap rookie contract. According to ESPN, Lacob acknowledged past drafting and development mistakes but maintained that the team was 100% sold on Lendeborg during the draft process.
