Jose Ramirez Hits 1,000-RBI Milestone in Guardians' 5-3 Victory

Jose Ramirez joined Earl Averill as the only Cleveland players to reach 1,000 career RBIs after hitting a sixth-inning home run on Friday.

Jose Ramirez reached 1,000 career RBIs with a solo home run in the sixth inning of the Cleveland Guardians' 5-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. The milestone makes the 34-year-old third baseman just the second player in franchise history to reach the mark, joining Hall of Famer Earl Averill, who recorded 1,084 RBIs for the club between 1929 and 1939. Ramirez is now the 12th active Major League player to reach the 1,000-RBI threshold.

During the comeback win at Progressive Field, Cleveland rallied from a 3-0 deficit to maintain their lead in the American League Central. According to ESPN Research, Ramirez also recorded a stolen base in the contest, marking his 38th career game featuring both a home run and a steal. This performance ties him with Shohei Ohtani for the second-most such games among active players, trailing only Mike Trout's 40.

Since 2017, Ramirez has recorded 666 extra-base hits, the highest total in the major leagues during that span. This achievement comes despite a season interrupted by a left hand fracture sustained on June 16 against Detroit, which required surgery and a 30-game absence. Ramirez acknowledged following the game that he is still managing discomfort from the injury and is not yet playing at 100% capacity.
