Kenneth Walker III Powers Chiefs to 31-10 Victory Over Broncos

Kenneth Walker III recorded 191 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in his Kansas City debut as the Chiefs defeated the Denver Broncos 31-10.

Running back Kenneth Walker III recorded 191 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in his Kansas City debut to lead the Chiefs to a 31-10 victory over the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. Walker, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, finished with 173 rushing yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-inches during the third quarter. He became the third player since 2000 to rush for at least 100 yards in his first game with the Chiefs, joining Kareem Hunt and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Patrick Mahomes returned from surgery on his left knee to complete 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Mahomes also scored a 15-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive, reaching a top speed of 15.8 mph. The Kansas City defense sacked Denver quarterback Bo Nix four times and recorded two interceptions. Rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane, the sixth overall pick, intercepted Nix on the Broncos' opening possession to set up the game's first touchdown.

Bo Nix struggled in his return from offseason ankle surgery, finishing with one interception and three fumbles, one of which was lost. Despite a first-quarter touchdown pass to Evan Engram, the Broncos' offense remained limited as Jaylen Waddle was held to one catch for two yards. Denver's ground game produced only 12 total carries, with J.K. Dobbins limited to three rushes in the first half. Cornerback Nohl Williams contributed to the defensive effort by holding Courtland Sutton to two receptions for 11 yards.

Kansas City moves to 1-0 and will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Broncos fall to 0-1 ahead of their next matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
