Kon Knueppel lasted less than six minutes in his return to the court before exiting the Charlotte Hornets' 114-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Charlotte Hornets 114-104 on Wednesday night, a contest marked by guard Kon Knueppel exiting just 5 minutes and 48 seconds into his season debut. The second-year player appeared to aggravate a left hamstring injury while dribbling up the court with 6:12 remaining in the first quarter. After losing the ball out of bounds, Knueppel was observed grimacing and favoring his left leg.
Charlotte officially ruled Knueppel out at halftime due to what the team described as "soreness in his left leg." The guard had previously missed all of the preseason and the first eight games of the regular season after sustaining a left hamstring injury during offseason on-court activities. Hornets coach Charles Lee stated after the game that the player will undergo further evaluation once the team returns to Charlotte.
Knueppel’s brief return followed the recent season debut of teammate Coby White, who had been sidelined by an offseason calf injury. During his rookie season, Knueppel led the NBA in 3-pointers and finished as the runner-up to Cooper Flagg for the Rookie of the Year award. ESPN reports that no immediate timeline for his return has been established following this latest setback.
