Kupcho’s Late Birdies Earn U.S. 8-8 Tie Entering Solheim Cup Final Day

Jennifer Kupcho sank a 90-foot birdie putt to help the United States reach an 8-8 tie against Europe at the Solheim Cup.

Jennifer Kupcho recorded two consecutive birdies on the final holes at Bernardus Golf to secure a 1-up victory for herself and Lindy Duncan, evening the Solheim Cup score at 8-8 after four sessions. The Americans won the Saturday four-balls session 3-1 to erase their deficit heading into Sunday singles. The United States now requires 14 total points to retain the crystal trophy in Den Bosch, Netherlands.

Trailing by one hole as they reached the 17th green, Kupcho struck a birdie putt from off the back of the green that traveled 90 feet into the hole. Her opponents, Carlota Ciganda and Celine Boutier, both missed birdie attempts from inside 12 feet, resulting in a tied match entering the final hole. On the 18th, the Colorado native converted a 25-foot birdie putt to win the match and earn the final point of the day.

U.S. captain Angela Stanford stated the performance shifted the momentum of the tournament. The event concludes with 12 singles matches to determine the winner between the visiting American squad and the European team.
