Marcus Rashford is scheduled to rejoin Manchester United’s squad at their preseason training camp in Ireland this week to begin preparations for the upcoming campaign. The 28-year-old forward returns to the club after Barcelona, where he spent the previous season on loan, opted not to trigger a €30m ($34m) permanent transfer option. Rashford’s arrival in Dublin follows England’s victory over France in the World Cup third-place playoff on July 19, which marked the start of his recent holiday.

Manchester United head to Ireland following a 1-1 draw against Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg on Saturday. During that fixture, Bryan Mbeumo delivered a standout performance for the English side. The upcoming schedule features a match against Leeds United at Croke Park on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Poland on Aug. 15 to face AC Milan, a team currently managed by former United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Return After 18-Month Absence

Rashford, who remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, will be part of the United first-team squad for the first time in more than 18 months. His last competitive appearance for the club occurred in December 2024 during a Europa League tie against Viktoria Plzen. Following that match, he was frozen out of the rotation by then-head coach Ruben Amorim, leading to a loan move to Aston Villa in January 2025.

Upon his initial return to Manchester United last summer, the forward was required to train alone. This period of isolation preceded his loan move to Spain. During his tenure with Barcelona, Rashford recorded 14 goals across 49 total appearances. Despite this production, the Spanish club declined the financial terms necessary to secure his services on a permanent basis.

United’s fixture against AC Milan on Aug. 15 provides an immediate reunion with Amorim, the manager responsible for Rashford's initial exclusion from the Manchester United lineup. The preseason itinerary serves as the primary ramp-up for Rashford, who has not represented the Red Devils in any capacity since the 2024 calendar year.

The decision by Barcelona to pass on the $34m valuation ensures Rashford remains on the United books for the foreseeable future.
