Sacramento Kings second-year center Maxime Raynaud suffered an apparent serious right knee injury late in the first half of Saturday night’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. The injury occurred at Chase Center while Raynaud was setting a screen for rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. as Stephen Curry defended the play. Following contact to the outside of his knee, Raynaud fell to the floor in visible pain, prompting coach Doug Christie to call a timeout and trainers to request an EMT with a wheelchair.
The Kings officially ruled Raynaud out early in the third quarter after he underwent initial testing during halftime. Following an evaluation in the X-ray room, team owner Vivek Ranadive and general manager Scott Perry visited the 23-year-old outside the visiting locker room. According to team sources, there is a growing fear within the organization that the center will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Raynaud is coming off a debut season where he earned All-Rookie second team honors, averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds across 74 games. The former 42nd overall draft pick was slated to serve as the primary frontcourt backup to starting center Domantas Sabonis for the upcoming season.
