Natalia Silva became the new UFC women’s flyweight champion at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City on Saturday night, defeating Wang Cong via unanimous decision. The victory marks the first time the division has seen a new titleholder in over two years. Silva currently holds the longest active win streak in the 125-pound weight class.
In the co-main event, bantamweight contender Payton Talbott defeated former two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. Talbott secured the win quickly, though middleweight prospect Ateba Gautier suffered a first-round knockout loss to Roman Kopylov on the same main card.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that Valentina Shevchenko is the most likely first challenger for Silva’s title, provided Shevchenko returns from injury. Erin Blanchfield, who holds an 8-1 UFC record and is scheduled to face Jasmine Jasudavicius on Oct. 17, remains a wild card option for the championship bout. Potential next opponents for Talbott include Sean O'Malley or top-10 ranked Farid Basharat. Following his knockout loss, Gautier could face the loser of the Dec. 12 middleweight bout between Bo Nickal and Joe Pyfer.
