The New York Knicks will hoist their championship banner at 7 p.m. ET on Oct. 20 to tip off the NBA opening slate against the Philadelphia 76ers. This matchup marks the debut of 41-year-old LeBron James for Philadelphia, a team that also added Jaylen Brown this offseason following a 4-0 sweep at the hands of the Knicks in last season's Eastern Conference semifinals. The league announced this tripleheader on Tuesday, which begins at 3 p.m. ET on NBC with the Boston Celtics visiting the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons enter the year having reached the Eastern Conference semifinals, while the Celtics look to rebound from a first-round playoff exit.

Closing out the first night of action at 9:30 p.m. ET, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the San Antonio Spurs in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals. San Antonio advanced to the championship round last season after defeating the Thunder in seven games, clinching the series victory on Oklahoma City's home floor. This high-stakes opener precedes a week of nationally televised doubleheaders, including the Oct. 21 debut of Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Miami Heat as they face the Minnesota Timberwolves on ESPN. That same evening, the Golden State Warriors travel to face the Los Angeles Lakers.

Prime Video and ESPN Early Week Matchups

On Oct. 22, the Philadelphia 76ers host the Cleveland Cavaliers, while the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Denver Nuggets. Prime Video begins its coverage on Oct. 23 with a doubleheader starting at 7 p.m. ET as the Knicks visit the Celtics. The late game at 9:30 p.m. ET features the Houston Rockets traveling to face the San Antonio Spurs. These early contests set the stage for the league's marquee holiday broadcast schedule, which was also revealed by the league on Tuesday.

Christmas Day Traditions and Record Appearances

The Dec. 25 schedule features five games across ABC and ESPN, highlighted by LeBron James facing his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. This will be James’ 21st Christmas appearance during what will be his record-setting 24th NBA season. The Knicks are scheduled to play the Spurs, marking New York's record 59th holiday appearance since the tradition began at Madison Square Garden in 1947. The last time these two teams met on Christmas was in 2024, a game where Victor Wembanyama recorded 42 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Despite Wembanyama's Spurs record for holiday scoring, the Knicks won that contest behind a 41-point performance from Mikal Bridges.

Holiday Stars and Full Schedule Release

Other Christmas Day matchups include the Miami Heat against the Boston Celtics and the Oklahoma City Thunder facing the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Denver Nuggets will also play the Golden State Warriors on the holiday. Individual milestones continue as Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards prepares for his third Christmas game, while Luka Doncic of the Lakers is set for his sixth holiday appearance. While these marquee dates have been confirmed, the NBA will release the full regular-season schedule this coming Thursday.
