Milwaukee will start left-hander Robert Gasser on Wednesday night as they look to protect a 2-1 series lead against the San Diego Padres.
The Milwaukee Brewers announced left-hander Robert Gasser (5-5, 3.87 ERA) will start Game 4 of the NL Division Series against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. He faces right-hander Walker Buehler (9-6, 4.63 ERA), who was reinstated from the paternity list on Monday. San Diego enters the contest following a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night, a result that narrowed Milwaukee's lead in the best-of-five series to 2-1.
Gasser, a former Padres draft pick traded to Milwaukee in the 2022 deal for Josh Hader, posted a 1.67 ERA in September by allowing five earned runs over 27 innings. While this marks his first career Division Series appearance, he previously threw 2 2/3 innings of relief during the 2023 postseason. The Brewers are attempting to snap a 12-game road playoff losing streak that dates back to the 2018 NLCS.
Buehler brings significant postseason experience to the mound, holding a 4-4 record and 3.04 ERA across 19 playoff games. He most recently earned the save in the 2024 World Series clincher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wednesday's matchup represents the first time either pitcher has appeared in this year's Division Series.
