Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring injury that carries a three-to-four-week recovery timeline.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks due to a Grade 2 hamstring injury, according to league sources cited by ESPN and NFL Network. The third-year star sustained the non-contact injury during the fourth quarter of a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and was subsequently carted off the field. While the team has officially ruled Williams out for Monday night's Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, they have opted not to place him on injured reserve, suggesting a potential return before four games have passed.

Head coach Ben Johnson characterized the quarterback's status as week-to-week, noting that imaging results were somewhat encouraging. Williams previously injured this same hamstring during his college career. Medical experts believe the severe pain experienced during the Vikings game may have been caused by scar tissue breaking up from that prior injury, a condition that typically does not result in long-term damage. If the three-week timeline holds, Williams will miss contests against the Eagles, New York Jets, and Green Bay Packers.

Chicago's quarterback situation is further complicated by backup Tyson Bagent entering the NFL's concussion protocol on Tuesday. Although Bagent participated fully in Saturday's practice, he remains officially questionable for Monday. If Bagent is unavailable, 38-year-old Case Keenum is expected to earn his first start since the 2023 season. Johnson stated the coaching staff is still finalizing the depth chart and evaluating which player's skill set best suits the offense for the upcoming game against Philadelphia.
