Stephen Curry agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension that includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension, league sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday. The agreement ties the franchise legend to the organization through his 20th NBA season and includes a player option for the 2028-29 season. By signing this deal, Curry becomes the first player in NBA history to surpass $600 million in career on-court earnings, reaching a total of $652 million.
Curry, who is currently on an expiring $62.6 million contract, became eligible for a maximum extension of two years and $136.7 million on Aug. 29. He ultimately opted for a pay cut to provide the team with approximately $10 million in additional projected cap space next summer. His salary will decrease to $55.7 million for the 2027-28 season before rising to $60.2 million for the final option year.
The Warriors expect to have between $38 million and $55 million in cap space next summer, depending on the status of Brandin Podziemski’s $17 million cap hold. This flexibility is aided by the expiring contracts of Jimmy Butler III ($56.8 million) and Draymond Green ($27.6 million), as well as Kristaps Porzingis having only $3 million of his $20 million salary guaranteed.
Curry, who turns 39 this season, missed 39 games last year due to a right knee injury. He reached the agreement three days before the start of training camp, stating his desire to avoid drama and ensure the team has the resources to remain competitive.
