Heavyweight rivals Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua met in London on Wednesday to promote their upcoming December 11 fight in Cardiff, Wales.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet in a heavyweight boxing match on Dec. 11 in Cardiff, Wales. During a pre-fight news conference held in west London on Wednesday, the two British fighters appeared face-to-face to promote the event, which is expected to take place in front of 80,000 fans. The bout was originally slated for New York earlier this year before being moved to the United Kingdom.
Fury, currently 38 years old, stated he intends to pursue a knockout rather than a points victory, claiming he will not run or box but instead throw down to catch his opponent. Joshua, who will soon be 37, is a two-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist. The meeting remained largely respectful, though Joshua alleged that Fury’s name appears first on the billing because the veteran heavyweight refused to sign the contract otherwise—a claim Fury denied.
During the event, Joshua led a minute of silence for boxing legend Ricky Hatton and friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who died in a car crash in December. While Fury referred to Joshua as an "old dosser," he also defended his rival against fan criticism, acknowledging Joshua's status as a role model. Both fighters confirmed the event was brought to Great Britain following their direct intervention in the planning process.
