However, Fury alleged in a social media outburst that Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn are attempting to withdraw from the event, citing Hearn's ego and a search for alternative opponents by Turki Alalshikh.

Promotional friction regarding the involvement of UFC President Dana White appears to be the primary source of the conflict. A press release stated the event would be a partnership between Turki Alalshikh, Ring Magazine, and White, a detail Hearn has since disputed. Hearn stated that White cannot be involved in the promotion and claimed Netflix failed to follow specific contractual memos regarding the matter. While Hearn confirmed he is in communication with Sela and Turki Alalshikh to resolve the issue, Matchroom declined to provide further comment to ESPN.
