Canadiens Sign Martin St. Louis to Multiyear Extension

Head coach Martin St. Louis has signed a multiyear extension with the Montreal Canadiens after leading the team to consecutive playoff berths.

The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday that head coach Martin St. Louis has signed a multiyear contract extension. The 51-year-old coach enters his sixth season with the franchise carrying a career record of 163-155-47. While the team confirmed the deal in Laval, Quebec, the specific duration of the new contract was not disclosed.

St. Louis originally joined the organization on an interim basis in February 2022 following the dismissal of Dominique Ducharme. Since having the interim tag removed at the conclusion of that season, he has guided the roster to two straight playoff appearances. This stretch included a 2025 Jack Adams Award nomination and a trip to the Eastern Conference final during the most recent campaign.

General manager Kent Hughes credited St. Louis with molding the youngest team in the NHL into a competitive group. Before transitioning to coaching, St. Louis was a Hall of Fame winger who recorded 1,033 career points and won the 2004 Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He retired from playing in 2015 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
