Sharks Sign Ryan Warsofsky to Multiyear Extension After Brink of Playoff Berth

Coach Ryan Warsofsky signed a multiyear extension with the San Jose Sharks on Thursday after leading the team to a 34-point improvement last season.

The San Jose Sharks signed head coach Ryan Warsofsky to a multiyear contract extension on Thursday, the first day of training camp. The 37-year-old, who is the youngest active head coach in the NHL, enters his third season at the helm following a 59-85-20 record over his first two years. Under his leadership, the rebuilding Sharks improved by 34 points last season—the 10th best single-season jump in the last 30 years—finishing four points out of a playoff spot.

General manager Mike Grier finalized the deal before the start of the regular season to allow Warsofsky to focus on the ice without the distraction of his contract status. Warsofsky, who previously served as an assistant for two years in San Jose, has also achieved success outside the NHL, winning a gold medal as the head coach of Team USA at the 2025 world championships and earning Calder Cup titles as both a head coach and assistant in the AHL.

The Sharks enter the upcoming season aiming to end a seven-season playoff drought, bolstered by the presence of superstar Macklin Celebrini. Veteran forward Tyler Toffoli praised Warsofsky’s motivational style and teaching ability, noting the coach's intense passion for winning. Grier highlighted Warsofsky's development of players throughout the lineup, from top-tier talent to those in the bottom of the roster, as a key factor in the extension.
