Manchester United manager Michael Carrick confirmed blunt discussions with club leadership following an eight-game winless run and a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick confirmed that "hard truths" have been exchanged between himself, the playing squad, and club leadership during an eight-game winless streak. The club enters Saturday's fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge seeking their first domestic victory since a 5-2 Premier League win over Ipswich on Aug. 30. That result remains United's only league win of the current season.

The pressure on Carrick intensified following a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Italian side Como and a subsequent 3-0 home loss against Bournemouth last Sunday. Despite these results, senior figures informed the 45-year-old manager that he would remain in his position. Internal discussions have involved CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox following a summer transfer window that critics claim failed to sufficiently improve the squad.

United are currently enduring their poorest run of form since the 1988-89 season. Statistically, this represents the club's worst start to a league campaign since 1986-87, the year Ron Atkinson was dismissed and replaced by Alex Ferguson. Carrick attributed the slump largely to a loss of confidence but maintained that self-belief can be restored with a single positive result.

Addressing external criticism, Carrick dismissed claims made by former teammate Gary Neville regarding unprofessional behavior or improper social habits within the squad. The manager stated he has not found evidence of such conduct among his players as they attempt to move forward from their current standing.
