San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that receiver Jauan Jennings declined a trade reunion during a FaceTime call, opting to stay with the Minnesota Vikings.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Wednesday that a potential trade to reacquire wide receiver Jauan Jennings from the Minnesota Vikings fell through after a FaceTime conversation between the two. The Vikings permitted Jennings to speak with Shanahan after the teams reached a preliminary agreement on trade terms. During the call, Jennings informed his former coach that he was happy in Minnesota, where he is currently playing under a one-year, $8 million contract that could reach $13 million with incentives.
Jennings has recorded six receptions for 54 yards on 10 targets this season for the Vikings. His decision to stay follows a 2024 campaign in San Francisco where he caught 55 passes for 643 yards and nine touchdowns while playing through shoulder, ankle, chest, and rib injuries. The 49ers originally selected Jennings in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft, and he spent six years with the organization before entering free agency.
The 49ers are seeking receiving depth due to several injuries. Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Mike Evans (Achilles) did not practice Wednesday, while De'Zhaun Stribling (ankle) remains sidelined. Demarcus Robinson, who is dealing with an ankle injury, was a limited participant as the team opened his practice window. Shanahan indicated that while Evans has made progress, Samuel is unlikely to play this week against the Las Vegas Raiders, with a potential return targeted for the following game against the Dallas Cowboys.
