Lamar Jackson returns to the Ravens lineup this Sunday in Buffalo after a three-game absence due to a high ankle sprain.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Buffalo Bills after missing three games with a high ankle sprain. The two-time MVP was a full participant in all three practices this week, marking his first full workload since sustaining the injury 26 days ago during a victory over the Tennessee Titans. Jackson, who described the pain in his left ankle as "bearable," had the joint taped for every session this week.
Baltimore (4-3) enters the matchup in last place in the AFC North following two consecutive losses. The team's offensive production has dropped significantly during Jackson’s absence; the Ravens averaged 14 touchdowns in the 14 quarters Jackson played this season, compared to five touchdowns in the 14 quarters led by backup Tyler Huntley. Furthermore, the Ravens have failed to score any second-half points over the last two weeks.
Statistically, the Ravens are 76-35 and average 28 points per game with Jackson as the starter since 2019. Without him over the past seven seasons, the team is 7-14 and averages 17.6 points. Before the injury, Jackson ranked third in the NFL with an 82.6 QBR, recording six passing touchdowns and one interception while leading all quarterbacks with 144 rushing yards.
Coach Jesse Minter expects Jackson to resume his standard style of play against a Buffalo defense currently ranked 31st against the pass. The Bills (5-1) have won three straight home games against Baltimore. Jackson noted that while he is not yet at full strength, he felt mobile enough during Friday's practice to move beyond what he termed "statue" status.
