Stephen Curry Weighs Two-Year, $136.7 Million Extension Offer from Warriors

Stephen Curry entered the final week before training camp without signing a new deal, despite becoming eligible on Aug. 29 for a two-year extension worth up to $136.7 million. The 38-year-old guard is currently on a one-year, $62.6 million expiring contract. According to ESPN, the Golden State Warriors presented Curry with multiple options, including a maximum salary agreement, smaller pay cuts to preserve cap space, or the choice to delay the decision.

If Curry signs for the maximum amount, Golden State's projected cap space for next summer would drop from over $100 million to approximately $45 million. Curry told ESPN on Wednesday that his goal is to remain a Warrior for his entire career, but he is prioritizing team flexibility to make necessary roster moves. The 18-year veteran noted that he wants to balance his personal earnings with the team's ability to remain competitive.

Physically, Curry reported no hesitation regarding his right knee, which limited him to 43 games last season due to persistent swelling and pain. He spent time this week in San Diego at a team function organized by Jimmy Butler. The Warriors are scheduled to begin practice next week in Hawaii before opening the regular season against the Lakers in Los Angeles on Oct. 21.
